The Beatles Set for iTunes Debut?

10

March

Paul McCartney has given his approval for The Beatles catalog to appear on iTunes according to Crave. The Telegraph estimates the deal could be worth as much as $600 million (£300 million). I’m sure McCartney would be happy to see that amount of money since he’s about to hemorrhage cash in his messy divorce.

UK bookmakers are already tipping “Yesterday” to top the charts, and we’ll see if those 3:1 odds hold in the coming months if the deal goes through.

NIN Release Surprise Web-Exclusive Album

03

March

Nine Inch Nails just announced the surprise release of their new instrumental album, Ghosts I-IV. Like Radiohead’s online-only debut of In Rainbows last year, Ghosts I-IV is only available to download and purchase through the album’s website. Check it out and download the first nine tracks for free, or pay a little change to get the full version in various package deals.

Trent Reznor explains more about the album’s genesis: “I’ve been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn’t have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a very visual perspective - dressing imagined locations and scenarios with sound and texture; a soundtrack for daydreams.”

Download the DRM-free, 320 kbps songs from Ghosts I-IV here. The website is a little slow with everyone slamming it after the announcement, but I’m happy to be patient and support any band that’s distancing itself from the record industry.

The Clutch Writes Hits

If you have ever heard Ciara’s Like A Boy, Britney’s Gimmie More, or almost any song by Timbaland’s Record Label Mosely Group, chances are you have heard the work of any member from The Clutch.

The Clutch is a collaborative group of songwriters/music producers that feature Keri Hilson, Candice Nelson, J.Que, Ezekiel Lewis, and Balewa Muhammad. While looking at their track record you can see the influence they have gained through writing hit song after hit song for almost any artist and any genre out there.

From Pop to R&B nothing is impossible for this group. In an interview with MTV, Keri Hilson (A Well Noted Member) said; “The Clutch is a new thing, it’s still a baby,” she said. “We are responsible for some major hits: ‘Ice Box,’ ‘Take Me as I Am,’ ‘The Way I Are,’ so many. ‘Anonymous’ by Bobby Valentino, a whole bunch of new artists. Beyoncé … the Clutch is everywhere. Co-writing makes it a lot faster, and you’re more open to other ideas. It opens you up creatively. Everyone brings more color to a certain situation, to a certain song, [which] makes it a lot easier. Sometimes we take it section by section or line by line — it’s fun either way. Work is play for us.”

Any person thinking about songwriting should look at their work; so make sure you look twice at the album credits for any one of the members. It is stated that when more than two members work on the song they are credited as The Clutch

Eminem Writing Memoirs

28

February

Eminem is writing a book that will provide an “intimate look” inside his life. The AP reports that The Way I Am, due for release this fall, is “every bit as raw and uncensored as the man himself,” according to his publisher.

Eminem has not released an album since 2004’s “Encore,” and he apparently doesn’t have another one in the pipeline. I’d think the book would have a hard time taking off with Eminem out of the spotlight for so long, but that’s a problem for his publisher, Dutton Books, to deal with.
