GTA IV Set To Rake In Record Profits

Variety reports today that Grand Theft Auto IV is set to pull in $400 million in first-week sales. To put that in context, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End made $404 million internationally in it’s first six days. Halo 3 set videogame records last year with $300 million in its first week. If the analysts are right, current retail orders and pre-sale demand will help GTA IV meet and surpass these records.
Movie studios are afraid that GTA IV will negatively impact new movie releases for the weekend of Friday, May 2. Paramount is particularly scared that Iron Man fans will stay at home and play GTA IV instead of going to see their movie. I, for one, plan on taking in both.
